The Tempane District Assembly held its 66th Independence Day celebration at the Tempane Junior High School Park, Tempane under the theme “Our Unity, Our Strength, Our Purpose”

The Tempane District Assembly held its 66th Independence Day celebration at the Tempane Junior High School Park, Tempane under the theme “Our Unity, Our Strength, Our Purpose”. The celebration had in attendance the District Chief Executive (DCE), District Coordinating Director (DCD) and staff, District Director of Education and staff, Honorable Assembly members, Divisional Chiefs and Community members with 10 schools which were made up of 16 contingents each. The celebration was chaired by Mr. Azure Edward the immediate past Regional Director of Education for Upper East an industrious son on the kusaal land, in his address he entreared all teachers to endeavor to be punctual at school and to always put the welfare of their students first in order to train them into responsible adults.
The District Chief Executive, Hon Anabida Issaka in his speech emphasised on the deep historical significance the day had on the country’s struggle for political emancipation. He stated that it’s a day homage is being paid to the sons and daughters of mother Ghana whose vision and zeal of purpose won us independence on 6th March 1957, sixty-six (66) years ago. He also stated that, as a result of the conflict situation in our settings there was the need for everyone to be more security conscious to unit with strength to achieve a common purpose of maintaining peace and harmony. He entreated students gathered as future leaders to stay away from violence and quarrels that might hinder the peace we are enjoying today as a District and rather take their studies more seriously. He then extended his profound appreciation to the people in the District, Civil and public servants for the compartment as far as the security situation is concerned and he also acknowledged the tireless efforts of the security personnel who work day and night to ensure peace in District.
Students then were invited to march pass the District Chief Executive, the District Director of Education and a Security personnel saluting them. Some contingents had on their scarfs inscriptions like “Enough of Bawku Shootings”, “Mr. President Arise and Help”, “Put the Guns down” which all advocate for peace in Bawku and its environs.
The day was well celebrated.
