Regional Minister confirms Tempane DCE
Tempane (U/E) Aug. 9, GNA – Mr Rockson Ayine Bukari, the Upper East Regional Minister on Tuesday confirmed Mr Paul Abugri Azumah as the first District Chief Executive (DCE) for the newly created Tempane District in the region.
Mr Azumah polled 21 votes out of a total of 24 votes cast in a single round voting process by Assembly members following the inauguration of the District in March 2018.
The region, which hitherto had 13 Municipal and District Assemblies, now has 15 with the creation of the two new districts, namely; Bolgatanga East District which was curved from the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly, and the Tempane District, which was also curved from the Garu-Tempane District.
Addressing the occasion, Mr Bukari thanked the members for a peaceful election process and said government acknowledged the role of Assemblies in the governance system of the country, and was committed to putting in place the right infrastructure and human resource to ensure development across the nation.
He charged the Assembly to work hard to generate revenue to enable it run its daily activities, and use the opportunity to admonish the Assembly members as well as the youth of the area to eschew partisan, ethnic confrontations, and support the nominee to execute his mandate.
The Minister further used the occasion to outline some successes chalked in the roll out of government’s flagship programmes, and indicated that the programmes had improved the welfare of citizens, especially graduates and the teeming unemployed youth.
Mr Bukari said government had re-introduced the District Development Facility with a whopping sum of 20 million dollars to provide funding to Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies, and said government was on course in fulfilling its social mandate to Ghanaians.
In his acceptance speech, Mr Azumah who was an Assembly Member and a professional teacher, thanked his colleagues for the confidence they reposed in him, and assured them that his administration would work to ensure unity across the political divide.
He called on the constituents to channel their energies into fighting poverty, hunger, diseases, and illiteracy among other societal challenges which served as barriers to the global quest of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
The occasion was graced by Mr Joseph Dindiok Kpemka, the Deputy Attorney-General and Member of Parliament (MP) for Tempane Constituency, Mr Frank Fuseini Adongo, the Deputy Upper East Regional Minister and MP for Zebilla Constituency, both past and present regional executives of the New Patriotic Party and some members of the public.
